VOLUNTEER with FRIENDS OF FORT FREMONT!
The construction and opening of the History Center at Fort Fremont would never have been completed without the tireless energy of Pete Richards, a supreme example of volunteer excellence to whose memory the interpretive center is dedicated. He energized the creation of the Friends of Fort Fremont and recruited many of us by his inspirational example.
We worked for hours, days and years alongside officials of Beaufort County to achieve the goal of an inviting and informative park and museum. We would not have reached this point without the many volunteers who contributed countless hours in pursuit of our mission to preserve and promote the educational, historical, natural, and cultural resources of the Fort Fremont Preserve. Volunteers conducted historical research, site cleanup and enhancement, website and social media design, community outreach, lectures and exhibitions, docent tours, tree identification and landscape plan, dioramas, an award-winning documentary, and much more.
